well done, speaker boehner. speaker boehner said we must deal with the debt ceiling immediately. listen to this, sir. >> let's start solving the problem and making it today. e can make the bold reforms and cut the deficit to make this worknd i believe we must. the markets aren't going wait forever. eventually they're going to start reacting. we know now to ignore these warnings, we will do so at our own peril. >> the markets won't way. does mr. boehner not recall the united states credit rating being downgraded after he led the last ceiling debacle. >> that's exactly right. the design of the republican program is essentially a tea party design. we've got three elements if we're going to deal with the debt, and we should. one is the pentagon. that's a contribution. what is revenues? we have to include revenues. they've taken it off the table and lowered them for high income folk and the third is discretionary spending. these tough for democrats but we indicated a willingness. that's part of it as well. so the design mr. boehner has put on the table guarantees failure. that is the

it sounds like boehner said look, we are going to have to deal. they are more okay with that than they have been in the past. what is weird to me is that the jobs aspect of this, which you are talking about in terms of what your constituents want and the thing you hear on the campaign trail. it's so absent from this conversation. it seems to me like the most important thing is growth. i'm with bob lucas that said that, right? once you think about growth, you can't think of anything else. exactly. growth is important. the point is, how do we get growth and full employment? that, to me, is a part of this conversation that's not here. >> some of the spending is investment. when government spends money on unemployment, which is part of this fiscal curve, it's manufactured. we could steer away from that curve by extending the emergency unemployment. we put money in those pockets of people out of work. they spend it immediately. it goes into the economy. corporations have $1 trillion of cash waiting for a smoke signal that there's going to be aggregate

boehner's warnings echos the demands the republicans made last year. if you want to sound smart today, tell your friends the u.s. treasury is expected to reach the current $16.4 trillion debt ceiling limit in early 2013. likely after the november elections. as of now, the u.s. debt roughly $800 billion below that limit with last year's $2.1 trillion increase in the debt limit being used up quickly. >>> enough of the real news. let's huddle up around the water cooler to watch james lipton the host of "inside the actors studio" giving mitt romney, who's been called stiff, some lessons in acting like a human. >> since politics and performance have become pretty much fused and since you've been criticized by some for not coming across as authentic to your public, maybe we can sort of work on that today. let's start with your laugh. >> you know, i live for laughter. i mean -- [ laughter ] >> it isn't working. it's inert. it just doesn't come across as genuine. worst of all, it's mergeless, which is to say, while you expect us to be amused, you're not the le
